Official currency of Republic of Cuba (República de Cuba), a country comprising the island of Cuba, as well as Isla de la Juventud and several minor archipelagos, in the northern Caribbean. Cuban convertible Peso was one of two official currencies in Cuba with Cuban peso. Two official currencies are in use in Cuba. One is National currency (CUP) and the other is Convertible peso (CUC). Convertible peso (CUC) are 25 times more valuable per face value. The rate between CUC and CUP : 1 CUC = 25 CUP. Cuban convertible Peso has been in limited use since 1994. On 10 December 2020, it was announced that monetary unification would take effect from 1 January 2021. From that date, the CUC is no longer accepted in many Cuban businesses, it can only be exchanged in banks or CADECAs, or used in certain shops, for a six-month period, after which it will be fully demonetised.
